Eero
What eero Models Are Available at JB Hi-Fi?
JB Hi-Fi stocks eight eero models across Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7 — covering every home size, internet plan and budget. The range includes three Wi-Fi 6 models and five Wi-Fi 7 models, available as single-unit routers or 3-pack mesh systems. All models are managed through the eero app and compatible with most NZ internet providers. Browse the full modems and routers range at JB Hi-Fi for additional networking options.
What Is the Difference Between eero Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7 Models?
eero's Wi-Fi 6 models — the eero 6 and eero 6+ — are built for reliable everyday home networking on standard fibre plans. They handle streaming, browsing, video calls and working from home across multiple devices without issue. eero's Wi-Fi 7 models — the eero 7, eero Pro 7 and eero Max 7 — offer significantly faster speeds, lower latency and Multi-Link Operation (MLO), which allows devices to use multiple frequency bands simultaneously for more stable connections. Wi-Fi 7 is the better choice if you're on a gigabit or faster internet plan, have 20 or more connected devices or want to future-proof your network. Wi-Fi 6 is the right pick for most homes on standard 100–1000Mbps fibre plans where the priority is reliable whole-home coverage at a lower price point.
What Is the Difference Between eero 7, eero Pro 7 and eero Max 7?
All three are Wi-Fi 7 models but they differ significantly in speed, band configuration and use case:
- eero 7 (2.5Gbps) — dual-band Wi-Fi 7 covering 2.4GHz and 5GHz. The most affordable Wi-Fi 7 entry point. Best for homes on gigabit plans wanting Wi-Fi 7 speeds without the premium price
- eero Pro 7 (5Gbps) — tri-band Wi-Fi 7 adding the 6GHz band for faster speeds and lower latency on compatible devices. Supports 100+ connected devices and speeds up to 5Gbps. Best for tech-heavy households, home offices and those with high-end gaming or streaming setups
- eero Max 7 (10Gbps) — eero's flagship, with speeds up to 10Gbps, four auto-sensing Ethernet ports and coverage up to 2,500 sq ft per unit. Best for large homes, multi-gigabit internet plans and users who need maximum wired and wireless performance
Should I Buy a Single eero or a 3-Pack?
A single eero unit works well as a standalone router for apartments and smaller homes with an open layout — typically covering up to around 140 square metres. A 3-pack mesh system is better suited to larger homes, multi-storey properties or homes with thick concrete or brick walls that block Wi-Fi signal. The advantage of eero's mesh system is that all units work together as one seamless network — there is no switching between different Wi-Fi networks as you move around the house. You can also start with a single eero and add more units later to expand coverage, since all eero models are backward compatible with each other.
Does eero 6+ Include a Smart Home Hub?
Yes. The eero 6+ includes a built-in Zigbee smart home hub, allowing it to connect and control compatible Zigbee smart home devices — such as Philips Hue bulbs, smart plugs, sensors and door locks — without needing a separate hub. This makes the eero 6+ a strong choice for anyone building out a smart home ecosystem alongside their Wi-Fi network. It also works with Amazon Alexa for voice control and supports Thread for Matter-compatible smart home devices. All other eero models support Thread but do not include the Zigbee radio found in the eero 6+. Browse the full home internet and Wi-Fi range at JB Hi-Fi.
Can You Mix eero Models in the Same Network?
Yes. All current eero models are backward compatible with each other, so you can mix generations and models on the same network. For example, you could use an eero Pro 7 as your main gateway router and add an eero 7 in a bedroom or garage to extend coverage. This flexibility means you can start with one model and add different units over time without replacing your existing hardware. Note that combining older and newer generation eero devices on the same network may result in some performance reduction compared to using all the same model — so for the best performance in a 3-pack system, matching models is recommended.
