Theia is a fierce proponent for the revitalisation of Māori culture and language and is celebrated for weaving her native tongue into her politically charged anthems.
The songs on Girl, In A Savage World blend Theia's ethereal vocals and haunting harmonies with traditional Māori instrumentation and contemporary soundscapes to create a unique sound that defy categorisation.
The album also features a collaboration with American avant-folk luminaryJolie Holland.
‘The record has been a long time coming, but I really wanted to take my time with these songs. I’ve pored over every lyric, every melody, and every harmony’, says Theia, who co-produced the record with Abraham Kunin (TE KAAHU, Home Brew).
