Tech competition to heat up in Rotorua with new JB Hi-Fi store

JB Hi-Fi is gearing up to ignite competition in the Rotorua retail scene, with its new store opening on Friday, 6 December—just in time for the festive season.

The new store, conveniently located in Rotorua Central among other prominent tech retailers, promises consumers a range of products and unbeatable value.

Tim Edwards, Managing Director of JB Hi-Fi New Zealand, said the new store will make it even easier for those shopping in the area to find exactly what they’re looking for at the best prices.

“The team have worked incredibly hard to have the store open in time for Christmas, ensuring that the people of Rotorua have extensive choice and incredible value for their Christmas shopping.”

“Whether you're on an entertainment or technology mission, checking out what's new, or flicking through the vinyl racks, the new store will give you a great shopping experience with the unique JB Hi-Fi style and fun that we’re known for.”

Tim notes that the store will offer the famous price match promise available at JB Hi-Fi stores nationwide.

“If you find a better price elsewhere, come in-store or go online and ask our team for a deal. We’re committed to making sure our customers get the best value, every time.”

The Rotorua store has created 30 new jobs for the city to meet the expected demand.

Te Arorangi Shorrock, Store Manager of JB Hi-Fi Rotorua, said that after months of intensive training, the team is ready to open the doors and welcome customers.

“We couldn’t be happier to be opening a store here in Rotorua. Our team is dedicated to delivering expert service and ensuring customers find exactly what they need.”

The Rotorua store is the eighth new store for JB Hi-Fi in the last two years and part of the retailer’s ambitious growth plan for New Zealand. JB Hi-Fi has recently opened new stores in Invercargill, Christchurch, Pukekohe, Nelson and Hamilton, as well as Auckland and Christchurch airports, while revamping existing stores nationwide with their new-look fit-out.

“We’ve heard you, Nelson” - JB Hi-Fi to open much anticipated Nelson store

-JB Hi-Fi is coming to the top of the south in a much-anticipated opening that will see the retailer open its 20th store in New Zealand.

Located in Nelson Junction, the store has 1000m2 of floor space and promises a vibrant shopping experience that embodies the unique JB Hi-Fi style the brand is known for.

Tim Edwards, Managing Director of JB Hi-Fi New Zealand, says he's looking forward to JB Hi-Fi becoming part of the Nelson community:

“We’ve seen the demand for a Nelson store for a long time. Whenever we announce a new store, we are asked when JB Hi-Fi will open in Nelson. So, we’re particularly excited to announce this store and say that we’ve heard you, Nelson.”

"We’ve opened six new stores in just over a year because we want to provide the best customer experience for Kiwis—wherever they are in the country. The new Nelson store gives us a presence at the top of the South Island and will offer locals the extensive choice, great value and amazing in-store experience JB Hi-Fi is known for,” adds Tim.

Located opposite Mitre10, Tim notes that the new store will offer exceptional value, including the famous JB Hi-Fi price match promise, available at all JB Hi-Fi stores nationwide:

The Nelson store has created around 40 new full-time and part-time jobs for the city to meet the expected demand in the growing shopping development.

Richard Percy, Store Manager for JB Hi-Fi Nelson, says that after months of intensive training, the team are ready to open the doors.

“We’re not just opening a store but becoming part of the community. The team is ready to go, and we can’t wait to welcome customers through our doors.”

The new opening is part of the retailer’s ambitious growth plan for New Zealand. JB Hi-Fi has recently opened new stores in Invercargill, Christchurch, Hamilton/Te Rapa, as well as Auckland and Christchurch airports while revamping existing stores nationwide with their new-look fit-out.

Doors will officially open for JB Hi-Fi Nelson on Friday, 23 August.

Set to ignite retail competition in the Pukekohe area, the opening of JB Hi-Fi’s new store on Friday, 22 March, promises consumers an expanded range of choices and unbeatable value with their renowned price match guarantee.

Located next to Mitre 10 in the Pukekohe Mega Centre, the new store will make it even easier for those shopping in the area to find exactly what they need at the best prices, whether they are looking for tech, home appliances, music, movies, or anything else that helps them live, learn, work, and play better.

JB HI-FI to open Its southernmost store In InvercargIll


 - JB Hi-Fi is moving south in 2024, with its long-awaited Invercargill store set to open on 19 January. Part of the retailer’s ambitious expansion plans, this will also be the trans-Tasman retailer’s southernmost store.

Located in Invercargill Central, the store promises an unparalleled shopping experience that embodies the unique JB Hi-Fi style the brand is known for.

Tim Edwards, Managing Director of JB Hi-Fi New Zealand, says he's looking forward to JB Hi-Fi becoming part of the Invercargill community:

"We've seen strong demand from Invercargill for some time, so it will be great to have a store presence in this first-class mall."

The Invercargill central store will create 25 new jobs for the city to meet the expected demand in the growing mall.

Tony Keay, Store Manager of JB Hi-Fi Invercargill, says that after months of intensive training, local employees have become part of the JB Hi-Fi family.

“We're not just opening a store; we're becoming a part of Invercargill's story, and we look forward to welcoming customers through our doors.”

He adds that local shoppers can expect a great range of technology at awesome prices.

In the lead-up to the opening, customers will also be able to enter JB Hi-Fi's 'What’s in the Box’ competition, which has been travelling the country. The three-metre cube offers a chance to win over $5,000 worth of prizes by correctly guessing the items inside. Consumers can enter by visiting the box, which is located inside the mall. The competition is on now and a winner will be drawn on Monday, 19 February.

Doors will officially open for JB Hi-Fi Invercargill on Friday, 19 January.

JB HI-FI to celebrate second ChrIstchurch store openIng wIth Drax Project

JB Hi-Fi’s South City store off Christchurch’s Moorhouse Ave will open with a bang on 2 November with a live performance from Drax Project.

The new store, in Christchurch’s South City Mall, continues JB Hi-Fi’s ambitious growth strategy for New Zealand and follows a flurry of store openings and refurbishments throughout the country.

Tim Edwards, Managing Director of JB Hi-Fi New Zealand, says the new Christchurch store will make it easier for Cantabrians to access their favourite tech and entertainment products.

The opening of the South City store is an exciting step for the JB Hi-Fi brand. The resurgence of the South City mall meant the centre felt like a natural progression for a second Christchurch store.”

The new store will also bring JB Hi-Fi’s fresh store look to the South Island, giving shoppers more to choose from, whether they’re looking for a computer, tablet, phone, TV, audio equipment, gaming, home appliance, music or movies.

While launch week is expected to be popular, the grand opening event will see in-store DJs, exclusive deals, and performances from local legends One Waka and international sensation Drax Project.

“We’re retail done differently. We want our stores to be a fun shopping experience, no matter what you’re looking for. As the home of music and movies, it’s great to be able to celebrate the new store with some great Kiwi music.” says Edwards.

“Drax Project is in the middle of an Australian tour too, so it’s great to have the boys make a special trip to New Zealand to celebrate the new Christchurch store.”

Customers will also be able to enter the highly anticipated ‘What’s in the Box’, which runs until the 6 November.

The grand opening event of JB Hi-Fi South City is on Thursday, 2 November. One Waka will kick off festivities, playing from 5:30pm to 7:00pm.

The store will open at 6:00pm with exclusive deals only available at JB Hi-Fi South City.

Iconic Kiwi group Drax Project will be playing from 7.30pm.

JB Hi-Fi has teamed up with 2degrees to offer exclusive pay-monthly mobile plans, the first partnership of its kind in New Zealand.

The partnership extends JB Hi-Fi’s commitment to making choosing a phone, a plan, and accessories easier by providing everything in one place, plus exclusive rewards for JB Hi-Fi customers.

Tim Edwards, Managing Director of JB Hi-Fi New Zealand, says they are always looking for ways to improve the shopping experience:

New JB HI-FI store openIng In HamIlton thIs week promIses an unparalleled experIence for shoppers

The first new JB Hi-Fi store to open in seven years, marking the official beginning of the brand's ambitious growth strategy for New Zealand, will open to customers in Hamilton this week with a fresh look that embodies the brand's unique JB Hi-Fi style.   

The new store, located at The Base Te Awa, will cover 1100m2 of floor space and is part of the retailer's five-year growth strategy to open more stores, refit the existing network, relocate stores to be in more convenient locations for customers, and launch at least two international airport locations.  

Tim Edwards, Managing Director of JB Hi-Fi New Zealand, said the new Hamilton store signals our confidence in New Zealand and feedback from our customers that they want more of the choice and service that JB HiFi offers.

"Our team has been working hard behind the scenes, and we have big plans for the future. If you want to invest in, work for, or partner with JB Hi-Fi, now's the time. But strap in because this is just the beginning."  

JB Hi-Fi's range of products will give shoppers at The Base Te Awa more to choose from, whether they are looking for computers and tablets, phones, TVs and audio equipment, gaming devices, home appliances, music, movies or anything else that helps them live, learn, work and play better.

Replacing the existing Hamilton store, the new JB Hi-Fi store has also created more jobs.  " Welcoming more people from the Waikato into the JB Hi-Fi family is great news for us and the region," he said.  "We have doubled our staff numbers to resource the new store, and all existing staff will transition seamlessly to the new location."


Launch week is set to be popular with live performances from crowd favourites White Chapel Jak and music legend Jon Toogood of Shihad fame, plus exclusive deals on the official opening night (7 July).  

The highly anticipated JB Hi-Fi What's in the Box prize draw will also take place during the opening event.  

"This will be big. We expect around 5,000 people in store over the first week," said Edwards.  

The grand opening of JB Hi-Fi The Base is on Friday, 7 July. Kicking off with a performance by White Chapel Jak at 5:30pm. The store will open at 6:00pm with hot exclusive deals only available at JB Hi-Fi Te Awa, The Base.

Legendary Kiwi artist and frontman of Shihad, Jon Toogood, will also perform in front of the store at 1pm on Saturday 8 July.
